Nightcrawler Cast in ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’

According to director Bryan Singer’s Instagram account, he has found his new Nightcrawler actor. Kodi Smit-McPhee (The Road, Let Me In, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) has been cast as a younger iteration of the teleporting blue mutant. Smit-McPhee has shown some plus acting chops in the past, so there’s definitely potential for a great performance and interpretation.

Originally introduced in a riveting action scene in X2, Nightcrawler has remained a fan favorite, and the lack of his presence in the subsequent X-Men films is something that will now be remedied. It will be interesting to see how much of his religious upbringing they utilize. Plus, his relationship with Mystique in the comic books allows for some interesting groundwork the writers could lay, if they choose to go that route.

X-Men: Apocalypse is set to be released May 27, 2016.
