Collider reports that one of the breakouts from The Wolf of Wall Street, Margot Robbie, is apparently in talks to play Joker’s insane girlfriend (and former therapist), Harley Quinn, in the Suicide Squad film opening in 2016. She has been rumored to be desired to play the role since the film was announced a few weeks ago. According to the site:

A few weeks ago, we reported that Will Smith, Tom Hardy, and Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street) was close to signing on to Suicide Squad, a film director David Ayer describes as “The Dirty Dozen with supervillains.” Hot on the heels of learning that Jared Leto is being courted to play The Joker, we have now learned from sources that Robbie will play Harley Quinn. For those who don’t know the character, she was introduced in Batman: The Animated Series as the Joker’s girlfriend/henchwoman, and has gone on to become a popular rogue/anti-hero in her own right. This will be the first time the character has ever been portrayed on the big screen.

Harley Quinn was actually a character that premiered in the Batman: Animated Series and as her popularity grew, she became integral to the bat-books, even having her own solo series currently. The Suicide Squad film seems like an unusual premise, but an anti-hero version of the Avengers definitely has my interest piqued. Robbie was one of the highlights of The Wolf of Wall Street and definitely looks the part. Hopefully, she lands this role and is afforded other big casting choices in the future. This, along with the Jared Leto as Joker rumors, have put Suicide Squad on my anticipated films list, without a doubt.
