‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ Review: On Your Left

Posted in Screening Room by - January 17, 2015

We’re half way through the Staff Writer’s Top 5 and this entry in the list comes from Yashar. I’ll admit that I’m a little puzzled on how something so recent could make it onto someone’s Top 5 Movies of All Time list, but I try not to judge.

I have to say that this is probably Marvel’s best showing, pre-Guardians of the Galaxy. It has all the flashiness and SFX prowess that comes with a Marvel Cinematic Universe film. It also delivers a compelling story and decent performances. However, some of the dialogue is little dry due to the fact that we’re dealing with comic book characters, not real people.

For those that haven’t seen The Winter Soldier, this film chronicles the secret take over of S.H.I.E.L.D. by what was thought to be a defunct Hydra. The film juxtaposes the battling ideologies of Captain America and Alexander Pierce, the World Security Council Secretary. Basically, a battle of traditional WWII style freedom against the secret oppression and social order of Hydra. To win this battle, Captain America must stop the launch of Project Insight with the help of Black Widow and Falcon. Through out the film, we also discover the identity of The Winter Soldier.

If you’re a fan of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe, Captain America: The Winter Soldier is a must see. This film in particular is rather aware of the current political climate the world is in, and does a great job in delivering a suspenseful film that tells a compelling story.

Final Say: Watch It
