True crime has been all the rage for the last year since Netflix released their Making a Murderer series to universal acclaim and public fervor. However, true crime has been a compelling topic for most filmmakers as it allows for interesting character studies and novel bending of a tried and true genre. 

This month we’ll be taking our first look at the genre. We’ll be looking at genre classics by master auteurs (Goodfellas and Zodiac), underrated films (Wonderland and 10 Rillington Place) and the newest film from M. Night Shyamalan (Split).
