Bryan Cranston to be ‘Star Trek 3’ Villain?

According to Film Divider, we may be seeing our favorite meth cook battling with Captain Kirk soon.

The major new role for a male actor will be the villain. As we understand it, he’s supposed to be Bryan Cranston-like, to the point that Cranston himself has had words with the studio about taking the role. We don’t know just yet if he said yes, or if this is an all-new character or somebody from continuity, but because they’re shooting for Cranston we at least know the filmmakers want to bring the intensity.

While Bryan Cranston isn’t guaranteed to have the role, it does seem like he is the ideal choice for the studio. While Star Trek Into Darkness was entertaining in its own right, it wasn’t particularly memorable, aside from Benedict Cumberpatch’s great turn as Khan. With that in mind, I hope that whoever lands the villain role will continue the interesting and complex villains of the film series.

Also, the report states that the writers want to introduce three new female characters: a captain of a federation ship, Bones’ ex-wife, and the president of the United Federation of Planets. These new cast members will hopefully inject some new life and perspective into the film as well.

Justin Long’Star Trek 3 is tentatively expected for release on July 8, 2016.
