No Sequel for ‘Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’?

Posted in The Screening Room by - February 24, 2015

I loved the American remake of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo mainly due to David Fincher’s fantastic direction along with Rooney Mara’s nuanced performance as Lisbeth Salander. Since the books are a series, it would stand to reason that Hollywood would be ready to make the remaining two films in the trilogy. However, according to Rooney Mara, the sequel has been more or less canceled.

I don’t think it’s going to happen. I’m sad never to do it again, but it just doesn’t seem like it’s in the cards.

Sony has spent millions on the the rights to the Millennium Trilogy so it would seem to me that they would make sure to do something worthwhile with such an investment. Even David Fincher seemed to think so last September when we was interviewed about the trilogy.

I think because (Sony) already has spent millions of dollars on the rights and the script, it will result in something. The script that we now have has huge potential. I can reveal that it is extremely different from the book.

I’m bummed that we may never get to see Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara again, but I hope Sony will do something with one of my favorite franchises.
