Tom Hardy out of ‘Suicide Squad’; Gyllenhall Rumored To Replace Him

Posted in The Screening Room by - January 16, 2015

Tom Hardy is out as Rick Flagg for DC’s Suicide Squad film due to scheduling issues with his other film The Revenant. In the news that broke with The Hollywood Reporter, Hardy’s schedule will be jam-packed early this year with Mad Max and The Revenant which caused him to have to drop out of the film. However, according to The Wrap, director David Ayer is looking to Jake Gyllenhaal to replace Hardy as Flagg in the film. Ayer and Gyllenhaal recently worked on End of Watch together and it seems that he might be the perfect fit for the role.

Personally I wasn’t terribly excited to see Tom Hardy in another DC film playing a different role a la Chris Evans for Marvel so this news is exciting for me. Hopefully even if Gyllenhaal doesn’t up being cast, we get to see a new actor brought in to the DC Cinematic Universe who can play off all of the A list talent that is already in the film.
